GUNMAKU PROJECT

Gunmaku is an indigenous town located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, which preserves the culture of the Arhuaco and Kogui communities, and is home to approximately 500 indigenous people.

They are known for their traditional way of life, which revolves around spiritual practices, agriculture, and a strong connection to their ancestral lands.

The Arhuaco people are recognized for their deep spiritual beliefs and rituals, which are based on the principles of harmony and balance with nature. They believe in the interconnectedness of all living things and strive to maintain a harmonious relationship with their environment.

Despite facing the dynamics of colonization, religious indoctrination and the armed conflict in Colombia that impacted their territory for decades, the Arhuaco people continue to strive to preserve their cultural heritage and way of life. They are actively involved in advocating for their rights and protections of their ancestral lands.
